Hello friends! Thanks for stopping by today for my second Christmas decor "Home Tour." If you missed the first one, you can check it out {HERE}. Although this one shouldn't technically be labeled "home tour," because it's only two rooms. I had planned on having my entire house decorated by now (I only lack the family room and the master)... but honestly at this point I will probably still be decorating on Dec. 26th. I have a little story to tell you later as to why the family room didn't get done for this post. But that just means you can look forward to ANOTHER Christmas tour! I know you're so excited. Eventually you will get to see the whole house- I promise.
Today for this tour I am joining nine other amazing bloggers, to bring all our Christmas decor and inspiration right to your fingertips, through the click of your mouse. So it's like a holiday tour of homes, but you don't have to walk from house to house in the freezing cold, bumping into your awkward over-friendly neighbors, and you get to enjoy it right in your very own home while wearing your pjs. And you can drink a little too much wine and no ones gonna judge.
So grab your drink of choice (wine, hot coco, egg nog) and come on in!!
I'll start this quick little tour in my OFFICE. Where I finally brought in some red.
I always like to decorate my office for Christmas, because- well, I'll be honest. End of the year design work can be stressful. So I need all the Christmas cheer I can get. Nothing over the top- just a simple little tree with wool garland, red balls, and chippy architectural piece ornaments. Some greenery in jars, red books, a wood Christmas sign, wreath, candles, and a red plaid blanket scarf. Just enough to make me happy when I look up from my computer.
While you're touring I'm going to tell you a funny story about the "naked" Christmas tree sitting in our family room right now. Every year we go an cut a fresh Christmas tree as a family- me, Austin, and Bella.
This year we didn't make it to the mountains. Well one day, while driving to my warehouse, I see this sign that says "Choose and Cut Christmas Trees." A few days later, on a Sunday, we drove out to this tree farm that wasn't far from town (not like the 2.5 hrs we normally drive), in search of THE Miller family 2017 Christmas tree. We pull in, park, and walk down a long dirt drive. AND there it was! THE Miller family 2017 Christmas tree! It had already been cut, place on a stand, and for some reason this really adorable family was standing around it... Turns out it was actually that families Christmas tree and the place was sold out of trees like it. It was a Leyland Cypress tree- it was so different than the normal fir trees we always get. And you know me, I love different. The scene from How the Grinch Stole Christmas immediately played in my head as I schemed up a way to steal that perfect tree.
But instead I pulled out my phone and gave my good friend Google a try. I typed in Leyland Cypress Christmas tree farms. A tree farm popped up that was an hour away. As we hop in the truck and drive off, Austin looks over at me and says "of course you can't just have a normal tree. It has to be some fancy cypress."
After driving what seems like hours we pull down this long drive, up to this old house that had ohh maybe 6 Christmas trees growing along the drive. And my mind goes from screening How the Grinch Stole Christmas to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The house, the man with a chainsaw, creepy music- it had it all!! That was until the man's sweet wife comes out saying ho-ho-ho in her santa hat. I'm pretty sure we were the only customers they'd had all day or possibly all season. He was very surprised when I said I had found the farm on Google.
They were so happy to see us, I knew we couldn't leave without 1 of their 6 trees. Luckily, right there on the end they had an 8 ft leyland cypress tree. It had a couple "bald" spots but it had to be THE Miller family 2017 Christmas tree. Austin cut it down with a handsaw- not really sure where the chainsaw went the man was holding when we pulled up. We loaded it up and as we pulled out of the drive Austin looked at me and said, "well that's a story we will tell our kids about."
Now back to why your actually here- the tour. Next and final room on this quick little two room Christmas tour is our GUEST BEDROOM.
Christmas is the time of year for hosting. And you just might have some family sleeping over. So if your like me, I always like to do a little something in the guest room to make it more cozy. Nothing crazy- just simple.
All I added in here was a little charlie brown Christmas tree with a few ball ornaments in a big bottle placed in a basket, a couple more ornaments on the headboard, a pom-pom garland over the wall decor, and some more smaller trees in bottles.
OHH and back to my tree story for a minute. I actually left the most important part out-- why that tree isn't on this tour. We get the tree home and up in the family room. I sit down on the couch and just look at it. These were my exact words, "I really like it but how to you decorate it." Seriously y'all... I could not, for the life of me, see a way to even put lights on it. It has these feathery like branches, not like a fir Christmas tree. Where and how do you drape the lights? So that's the reason(s) that room is not in this tour like originally planned. It's still sitting downstairs naked. Hopefully today or this weekend I can figure this tree out. I will share how it turns out on here, that will be my next Christmas tour. THE Miller family 2017 Christmas tree may be a big FAIL. I even Pinterest-ed decorated leyland cypress- and nothing. We will see how that goes. Sorry for the interruption for the long tree story, but I hope it brought you some laughs.
Now back to my simple Christmas guest room decor. Don't you just love these signs Hunt and Gather Goods made for this space. I think they are the perfect touch for a guest room. And they look stunning layered with the tiny charlie brown tree and white pom-pom garland.
Here's some holiday guest room decorating advise: While decorating a guest room for any holiday you want keep it simple. Try not to clutter and make a guest feel cramped, or like they will "mess something up." Comfort if key. A great way to add holiday touches without overwhelming is with pillows. I cute little holiday pillow adds a nice touch that doesn't take away from comfort.
I'm really loving these little trees in bottles this year, if you haven't noticed. I've pretty much used them in every single room. They are just some type of evergreen I pulled up out of the woods behind our house. They are actually kinda prickly. Dear Lord, please don't let someone tell me they are poisonus or something. But I thought they were cute so I put some gloves on, and pulled them right up leaving the roots. Leaving the root attached is nice because I put water in the bottles and it's keeping them nice and fresh.
Well that's it for this tour. I really hope you've enjoyed my Christmas office and guest room tour, now head on over to the next stop on our Holiday Hop --> Finding Lovely CLICK HERE. I know you will find so much inspiration in Jackie's home.
