There is something magically about decorating for Christmas. I always light a Christmas candle and crank up the Christmas music. It’s like I become Buddy the elf in Kayla’s own little snow globe. When I start decorating the joy of Christmas really starts to set in. I am so happy that this year I get to make JOANN part of my Christmas decorating. I let my creative juices flow when decorating for Christmas so I couldn’t think of a better store than JOANN to get me ready- they have a great variety of ready made decor and all the craft supplies ones little heart could desire for creating one of a kind Christmas decorations. Can’t wait to share my own little creations I made this year with you!
So light your favorite Christmas candle turn on some classic Christmas music and lets get this started! (I found the yummiest candle at JOANN that smells like a mixture of pine, sweetness, and cedar. Pretty much Christmas in a jar. It’s called “Frosted Spruce".” -CLICK HERE) I will be sharing all the links to products I used on my mantel towards the end of this post.
Our mantel is one of my favorite places in our home to decorate for Christmas. I don’t know if it’s the stockings or the shiplap. It’s just a fun area to decorate. This year I wanted to keep it simple while still making an impact in the room. Our living room is a very open concept and can be seen from all angles downstairs. So I had to have just enough without being too much.
Here is how I put this simple yet impactful look together: First I added the weeping long needle flocked trees. My placing was strategic to give balance. On the right you have one tall candlestick and one short candlestick with one tall tree. On the left you have one shorter candlestick, one tall tree, and two shorter trees. It’s all about creating visual balance.
Then came this beautiful mercury glass ornament garland. I draped this across the front on the mantel to add a little texture and color. No it’s not a bright color but the darker hues help add dimension and contrast to the entire look. I also love the elegant timeless look it adds.
Next I added this felt leaf garland which was fun DIY project I created with olive felt sheets I got in the craft department at JOANN. I was inspired by a garland I saw in Antropologie a few years ago that is no longer available. This garland is simple and adds a fun whimsical look to the mantel. To get my full tutorial on how to make this DIY Felt Leaf Garland- CLICK HERE. It’s super simple and only requires a hot glue gun and felt. I also think it would be super cute to do multicolored leaves if you’re going for a more colorful look.
Then came the “twinkle lights.” I think what I might love the most about Christmas decorations is the GLOW. So I added in some LED fairy lights along the mantel intertwining them throughout the garland, trees, and candlesticks. They are battery operated so no hiding pesky wires. I used two strands for just the right amount of cozy glow!
I also crafted these AMAZING textured stockings! I honestly cannot even believe the finished result. They look super expensive/high end and they’re NOT. I took some plan craft stockings I found in the Christmas section and transformed them into these luxurious textured stocking with materials I found in the craft and fabric section at JOANN. And I totally hot glued all the various materials on. So its an insanely easy way to create high end stocking for a lot less. I also have a tutorial for these as well- they are honestly so easy and take minutes to make- CLICK HERE.
I think Miss Charlotte is impressed and was so excited to pick out her stocking. This is her first Christmas and I cannot wait for her to experience all the magic Christmas brings- as long as she doesn’t try to eat everything.
Then along the hearth I placed my favorite wire metal basket from JOANN and filled it with a cozy throw and snowflake pillow. On the other side I stack some wood to add some warmth and texture. No our fireplace is not wood burning- but I just like the look of stack wood.
