A little over a week ago I set up shop at The Market on Chapel Hill in Pike Road Alabama. This show was founded by Layla of The Lettered Cottage- one of my all time favorite bloggers. Her show on The Design Network is where I first learned of Pike Road Alabama and after visiting I understand all the excitement. Pack my bags and move me now!

The Market on Chapel Hill is just as it sounds. A market on a hill with a darling little chapel. You couldn't have asked for a better setting or weather for a show. Nestled right in the middle of a community of modern farmhouses I immediately felt at home. Neighbors of the community strolled by and offered a hand with unpacking and setting up- it was southern hospitality like I had never seen! One sweet lady even invited us over for sweet tea on her porch afterward. I'm from the south and know all about southern hospitality, but man these people are a step above!

We set up our booth on Friday and that afternoon before we left we took a drive around this dreamy community. The smell of charcoal and BBQ filled the air, every person you met on he street thru up their hand, families were walking their dogs, riding golf carts, and one houses yard was filled with thrown down bicycles from all the neighboring kids. I literally felt like I was on the set of a movie. And the houses!! Tin roofs, front porch swings, large white trimmed windows, each one was a modern farmhouse masterpiece! Austin said it reminded him of a modern day Battery like in Charleston, SC. Lets just say I could have moved right in to any one of the houses.

Saturday was show time. The market started at 9am and people began lining up at 7am. The morning before a show I like to go around and make finishing touches and photograph my booth. Sometimes its that last hour or two when things really come together. When the doors opened at 9 am it was a mad rush that lasted for the first couple of hours. As the day went on the crowd thinned and I could actually take time to chat with my customers- which is my favorite part. Lending some design advise or helping them pick out the perfect piece for their home.

This was the first show where people asked to have a photo taken with me. I was so honored but at the same time confused. Why in the world would anyone want a picture with me?! This truly touched my heart, that I have fans that love me and my style enough to ask for a picture! When you own your own business there are little moments in life that you realize why you do all the things you do and this was one of them.

This was one of my larger setups and I absolutely loved it! I felt as though it had a nice flow and things were displayed in a way that made shopping easy for the customers. I wish all my booths could be situated like this. Thats one of the hard parts about being a pop-up shop. Each booth is different and sometimes the pre-drawn plans for a space just don't work out. You have to play with space and place items one by one until it feels right. Even if it means moving the heaviest piece four times. It's literally like setting up a store, staging it all for a day or two, then tearing it all back down. After my show season I will be sharing a blog post all about the logistics behind how I set up and style my booths. Many fellow vendors have asked for this and I promise its coming!

I loved the time I got to spend at The Market on Chapel Hill and my first trip to Alabama was a nice one. Dale, the gentleman who now puts on the market, and his family were so welcoming and the show was a success for Plum Pretty. Loved chatting with old and new vendor friends and meeting so many of my followers! Loved my time spent in Sweet Home Alabama!!
