This weeks smoothie is completely out of my normal “go to” recipe. But when I did a recent poll on my Instagram stories a lot of people requested a peanut butter smoothie recipe. And of course you know I did one with a spin and hid green goodness inside.
So you asked and I created a healthy peanut butter smoothie and even added in a fruit and a vegetable. You know I sneak them in anytime I can. This is another smoothie kind of like the scrumptious pumpkin spice (CLICK HERE) one from a few weeks ago being that the flavor has your tastebuds screaming “it’s FALL.” It’s almost like drinking a milkshake but so MUCH healthier.
With the first day of fall this past weekend it’s like my body went into fall treat mode. Give me all the pumpkin, apple, caramel, sugary sweetness. But that’s totally not what this new weekly smoothie recipe series is about. Seeing how majority of you are here for healthy smoothie recipes that fuel your day and not your waistline I came up with this yummy yet healthy version of a creamy apple pie- smoothie version. And if you’re like me and over indulge on all these yummy fall treats (insert Krispy Kreme pumpkin spice donuts) then a smoothie is a great option for breakfast, lunch, or heck even dinner. After all, they say a good diet is about balance right?!
The peanut butter in this smoothie adds creaminess and protein along with a nutty flavor. I use a peanut butter powder but normal peanut butter is fine too. Peanut butter is a great source of protein and healthy fats that keep you feeling full. The apple and cinnamon give you that fall apple pie flavor. Then there’s the oatmeal…? You might think this is an odd ingredient for a smoothie. But let me tell you! A friend suggested that I add this to a smoothie because it helps you feel fuller longer and man does it work. Oatmeal is FULL of fiber and helps regulate/stabilize blood sugar. So no drops in blood sugar that leaves you feeling sluggish and grumpy. And you know me on top of it all I added in some green goodness- spinach. You don’t even taste it so don’t worry. It’s just there for extra nutrition- and makes the smoothie look green.
Y’all know the spill- now that we’ve chatted about all the main ingredients (y’all know my other basics- almond milk & protein powder) here is the recipe:
Peanut Butter Apple Oatmeal Green Smoothie
ingredients:
- 1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
- 1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder
- 1 Apple
- 1 tbsp Peanut Butter Powder or Regular Peanut Butter
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 handfull Spinach
- 1 cup ice cubes
instructions:
- Add your almond milk then your protein powder. I swirl my almond milk and protein powder to pre-mix it a bit.
- Add your apple (cut up with peel), peanut butter, and cinnamon.
- Next add you spinach and ice cubes.
- Blend on high for 90 secs or use your smoothie setting if you have a Blendtec. The smoothie should be smooth and pourable. ENJOY!
